The process of applying to an ABA-approved law school can look different for everyone, but ultimately, to submit your applications, you’ll need to:
Create your secure account in JD Services.
Provide consent for LSAC to handle your information and pay the CAS subscription fee.
Make sure there is a reportable LSAT score in your file (if required by the law school requesting your CAS Report).
Provide information about the schools you attended.
Send all required undergraduate, graduate, professional, and law school transcripts.
Send all required letters of recommendation.
Let’s look at each component in more detail.
Complete the JD CAS
To complete your CAS, you will need to:
Identify the persons you want to write your letters of recommendation. You will provide the recommenders’ names and contact information, and we will facilitate the uploading of the letters of recommendation, whether paper or electronic. You must assign the letters to each law school to which you are applying. You will be able to find information about each school’s requirements on the Letters of Recommendation page of JD Services.
Add the schools you attended for your undergraduate degree, as well as any institutions attended for graduate or other higher education coursework. You can do this under the Credentials & CAS tab in JD Services. After you add a school, you will get access to a transcript request form you can use to request official transcripts from your school. These transcripts will be sent directly to LSAC. LSAC must receive official transcripts directly from the school. Transcripts sent by an applicant will not be processed.
Take the LSAT. You must have at least one valid LSAT score on file for your CAS to be complete. However, the LSAT requirement can be waived by a law school if its admission practices allow an alternative entrance exam or some other application requirement.
